Songs of Old Cirencester

In the early years of the twentieth century, folk song collectors travelled the country searching for the old songs that the ordinary people were singing in their homes and in their pubs. Some came to the area round Cirencester and visited the old people living here to hear some of the songs that they remembered. These might have been popular ditties from their youth, but many were a great deal older.

Join Martin and Shan in Baunton’s beautiful Norman church as they sing some of these old songs together, unaccompanied and in harmony, and talk about their history and about the people who sang them. You can see a short film that Martin made about the event here.

Includes a short interval. Donations to the festival welcome on the night!
